The model

It's important for InfoGraffiti to stay on its feet in the coming months, and as you're all aware, I'm keen to drum up a way to make that happen. With little take up in a traditional 'donate' model of staying afloat, I've really gone back to doing what I do best, thinking up more ideas.

InfoGraffiti may have been dreamt up by myself, but really, this is our project. You guys contribute to this publication and so in that sense, it's yours. Since its your publication too, it seems fair that your hard work at getting it out there should also pay off? With that in mind, I am proposing a new model for how we might keep InfoGraffiti funded.

The first hurdle to get over for this model is this: can you guys get your friends, family, associates and even strangers to 'subscribe' to InfoGraffiti? By that, you personally guarantee them a copy of the disk every month for a fee. Would this be possible? When I tell my friends/family in the UK about the project, there's a hint that some people would be interested enough to subscribe - could you do the same? To setup the subscription you send your friend/coworker a link which they follow. You are then paid for each of the subscriptions you sell.

If that can be achieved, then IG would setup a private tracker with distributers having to register to gain access to it. InfoGraffiti HQ would then take a set percentage of your subscription revenue, which would go towards creating the episodes, developing the site, and improving our collaborative tools so we evolve into something quite special and can offer a better and better publication month on month. The rest of the money from the subscriptions goes to you.

There are plenty of things to work out; what is a fair price for the DVD, what is a workable percentage for IG to take, and then there is editorial and the issue of rights; but all of this can be ironed out with time. The big question is simple, does this sound interesting to you and who on IG would be interested enough to take part? Let's have a preliminary show of hands by upvotes and comments.
