People say that this website can change the world. How is that possible...?
Well we have 3 versions of that answer....

If this concept interests you, then we cannot recommend enough the books and DVD's below, they highlight why infograffiti needs to succeed. You will never see the world the same again. If you haven't heard of Noam Chomsky, all will become clear if you read the books, for it is no co-incidence that you haven't heard him talk...

"I've got time and like to read version"

Noam Chomsky, the most quoted intellect on the planet, laid down his book that the main problem with the media is access, and our lack of it. When newspapers were being set up in the 1900's the cost of acquiring a printing press to print enough papers to reach the whole of the UK rose so sharply in the face of competition, that new newspapers could not be started up. The ones that got in early became totally dominant and very powerful.

Since that time mine and your access to the media, an institution which now easily spans the globe, has remained almost none existent; but we have an idea thats about to change all that and combat the bias, content, and power imbalance that we as internet users have learned to be rife in the Global Media.

How much would it cost us to buy or rent a printing press to print video CD's with OUR content on it (in DivX or VCD format) to distribute around the world? A centrally organised start up company with the best intentions has only the worst prospects at delivering on this mammoth task, but the Internet is not a centrally organised start up company.

You're reading this because you stumbledupon us, you saw us on digg, reddit, fark, newsvine, netscape, slashdot, del.icio.us, google etc etc etc. The list goes on, but the point is, the users of these services (us included) are preaching to the converted. Their mainstream media bypass only serves people who understand how to use them, which is an unfortunately small amount. Our social news aggregation is a private club, between us we edit, discuss, promote, produce and destroy content, but that process should have an end product which is distributed on a mass scale around the globe; we don't have that and so our club remains organised but its power neutered.

What if we could package up the best of the web into a format that the whole world can understand and experience; on CD format to watch on a PC or DVD player, thats what we aim to do. Each month we will be releasing an ISO (a CD image to burn to CD) via torrent (a simple way to distribute large files very quickly) of the most progressive thoughts, the most controversial ideas, the most subverted news and freshest entertainment. You've got a CD burner, as have I, as have the twenty or thirty thousand other visitors we have here. If we each print of 10, 20 or as many as we dare, label them with a recognisable brand and then leave these wonderful gems of information graffiti all over our beautiful cities, people will find them, discuss them, and eventually one brave rogue will use one, tell his friends thats is OK and the rest will be history. The content of the CD's will be decided by people here at infograffiti, documentaries and information that we feel needs more merrit and more exposure. Finally we develop an end product to our social news editing.

Whats the point of us editing unless we produce a product? Do we want to remain a private club or do we want to get our message out?

Noam Chomskys main critic of the Media is obsolete because between us we own the biggest printing press the world has ever seen, it's just the medium that has changed with message that finally makes sense. If you are interested in becoming an info graffitier, then just register and vote on content. All you need is your determination for change, your CD burner and an appetite for mischief and together we can change the way unfair and biased balance of information on our planet.

"I've got 2 minutes, tell me the basics version"

Infograffiti.org has just launched its website and we need your help, it's the latest idea in information distribution and our basic aim is to distribute CD's with forward thinking videos on it gained from the many social networking sites across the web.

We believe that the information which we organise as a social news community is too difficult to access for most people, and we feel that by distributing a CD each month with documentaries and other video content on it we can get the internets message out to more people.

The hurdle is printing enough CDs to do it, a problem which has faced every new media venture since new media ventures began; printing presses are expensive. Then we realised that the social news community is large, very large, it covers most major cities in the world. Crucially most people have a CD burner, meaning that the social news community is the biggest printing press the world has ever seen, it just hasn't ticked into action yet. What we want is for people to download a torrent (a simple method of distributing a large file very quickly) of our ISO (a CD image to be burned to CD), the content of which will be decided by infograffiti users. Burn as many copies of the CD as you dare, insert a recognisable logo and then spend an evening graffitying your city, leave the CDs on park benches, in lifts, in coffee shops, libraries and bus seats for people to find.

This opens people up to a whole new world of information which they had not had any real scalable access to before, because you and I are privileged in our ability to edit and experience the web so well. We think that this could grow and grow until the internet becomes a formidable force to be reckoned with as we reach more and more people with the internets forward thinking message. If you're interested in the project then all you have to do is register and get voting. Any contribution will make a difference, all you need is your determination for change to be directed towards your CD burner and together we can change the unfair and biased balance of information on our planet.
